The love of staying among the top automakers has kept the Pune-based auto maker up to the mark not only in the Indian shores but also in the International markets. Bajaj has also been in talks owing to its various expansion strategies, tactical alliances, international trades, and product launches.

Bajaj, after the declaration of its global alliance with Triumph Motorcycles of the U.K., now has announced that it is now working to build a new brand, which is codenamed as Urbanite.

The new brand will bring in inspirational and elegant products, and it projects to become a Tesla in electric 2-wheeler segment. The company will be producing electric powered 2-wheelers and 3-wheelers through this new brand. The brand will be used for both domestic as well as international markets.

Talking about the same, Rajiv Bajaj said, “I have previously stated and would love to say it again that I don’t want to make more 100CC scooters and make a volume business in a huge market with more 10 players in it.”

The company also affirmed that the electric vehicles comprising 3-wheelers under the new brand will be opened for sale by 2020. It will be interesting to see whether the automaker will produce Urbanite-based electric vehicles through its present line up or will design discrete models for it.

In the meantime, the company will also give some glances of result out of the Bajaj and Triumph alliance. Whereas, the automaker has already initiated its function on the mid-capacity segment motorcycles, as it has a keen focus on the segment, which is currently led by Eicher-owned Royal Enfield. Bajaj also intends to expand the triumph dealerships in the country and take the mark from 13 to 40. The expansion is projected to be fulfilled before the launch of those mid-capacity bikes that are manufactured through the partnership.
Thus the overall plans of Bajaj clearly depict that after huge efforts to gain some traction in the commuter segment, the company now sees more lucrative opportunities in high power motorcycle segment.
