Treasurer's Office preparing for auction

Humboldt County Treasurer Gina Rackley will be holding a delinquent tax auction at 10:00 am on Friday April 12, 2013 in the County Commissioners Meeting Room located on the second floor of the courthouse.

 

UPDATED: Cops respond en masse to LHS to assist school resource officer

A fight on campus caused School Resource Officer Jeff Dawson to call for assistance and every available law enforcement officer in Winnemucca responded with lights and sirens to Lowry High School, which may have caused concern among parents -- especially considering the number of tragic circumstances at schools across the country in recent months. However, the situation was quickly controlled. The incident occured shortly before noon today (Tuesday, April 9).

According to District Superintendent Dr. Dave Jensen, events began when district personnel received a tip that a former LHS student planned to enter campus with the intent to beat up one of the students.  The student who was believed to be the target was secured while school personnel combed the area looking for the suspect.
 

Man sentenced for kidnapping among the cases in district court

WINNEMUCCA — A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping was sentenced to probation on Monday (April 1), which was among the cases in 6th Judicial District Court.

NERIO CEBALLOS was sentenced for second-degree kidnapping to 60 months probation with an underlying sentence of 33-86 months in prison and for the deadly weapon enhancement to 60 months probation with an underlying sentence of 33-86 months probation. He has 891 days credit for time served.

 

WPD investigating death on E. Second St.

The Winnemucca Police Department is investigating the death of a 34-year-old man who was found unresponsive Sunday night (April 7) at a residence in the 500 block of E. Second St. HGH EMS responded and transported the man to Humboldt General Hospital where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:20 a.m. Monday (April 8).

According to a statement released by the WPD, the death was suspicious but no foul play was suspected. Detectives responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation. The man's name is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin.

 

Taco Bell update

After several delays that took the project into the winter months, the new Taco Bell is beginning to take shape. According to Mike Railey, of Rubicon Design Group, under the best case scenario the place should be open by Memorial Day or perhaps June 1. If there are unexpected delays, they should be serving up crunchy tacos by July 4.

WGS Rummage Sale

WINNEMUCCA —The Winnemucca Grammar School will host its annual rummage sale on Saturday, April 13, and local residents are invited to “clean up” on some great bargains.  The “Spring Clean-Up Rummage Sale” goes from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the gymnasium.

 

Governor announces Fourth Annual Nevada Moves Day

CARSONCITY– Many Nevada schoolchildren will take part in organized events to walk or bicycle to school on April 24, which has been proclaimed the fourth annual Nevada Moves Day by Governor Brian Sandoval.
