LAS VEGAS — Leadership Academy of Nevada, a new Nevada public charter high school, is offering to the youth of Nevada (ages 13-17) a free online seminar about The Constitution of the United States by James Ure of Williamsburg Academy. This online seminar series is comprised of four 60-minute seminars on Monday and Thursday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. beginning on April 15, 2013.

WINNEMUCCA – Police are still trying to piece together incidents that started late Friday afternoon (April 12) with a two-vehicle crash on Grass Valley Rd. and ended with them having to taze a man after he allegedly became combative.
According to Sgt. Marshall Young, of the Nevada Highway Patrol, events began when a motorist in a SUV traveling north on Grass Valley Rd. allegedly crossed the centerline and sideswiped a pickup truck. The motorist in the SUV continued traveling northbound, crossing the centerline again and almost hitting another vehicle whose driver swerved off the road to avoid a collision.

It wasn't all easement discussion and budget concerns at the Tuesday (April 9) meeting of the Winnemucca City Council. Also on the agenda was recognition for people working behind the scenes to help improve quality of life for residents.
Tuesday was the first time mayors across the country participated in Mayor's Day for Recognition of National Service. As such, Mayor Di An Putnam took the opportunity to recognize the volunteers from AmeriCorps and SeniorCorps. (shown) Mayor Di An Putnam congratulates Officer Ed Holsclaw, of the Winnemucca Police Department, as she presents him with a ten-year service award on behalf of the City on Tuesday (April 9). She said Officer Holsclaw was one of those officers who give back to the community and honor their department. Holsclaw also received a "good job" from Chief of Police Eric Silva and the Winnemucca City Council.

California motorist prematurely exits Interstate

A California man received slight injuries after wrecking his pickup truck off the Interstate 80 exit ramp in town. The accident happened on Wednesday (April 11) shortly after 1 p.m. According to the accident investigator, Trooper Johnny Peoples, of the Nevada Highway Patrol, the man left California early in the morning for a trip to Boise, Idaho.

City moves forward with new firehouse; costs slowly inch up

WINNEMUCCA – The Winnemucca City Council decided to move forward with a new station for the Winnemucca Volunteer Fire Department – despite the fact it will cost more than they hoped to pay.
Don Smit, of Project One, and Architect Gordon Aloliau updated the City on the planning progress on Tuesday (April 9). The new fire station will be located on property owned by the city on E. Winnemucca Blvd.
