WINNEMUCCA — The Winnemucca Police Department is taking action to close the information gap exposed when an escaped sex offender returned home and no one thought to notify the community he could be in the area.

Scott Sidener, 20, escaped from the supervision of juvenile parole in Washoe County in February. He was captured here in May but in the mean time had allegedly victimized an 8-year-old girl.

This was not Sidener’s first escape. During a previous escape from NYTC, the Elko County Sheriff’s Office issued a notification to the community. This did not happen in Humboldt County.

The first fire was reported in the brush behind the Lowry High School baseball fields late in the afternoon, and the second was adjacent to Jungo Rd. on Winnemucca Mountain in the late evening.
