| Newspaper publisher keeps the heat on the City Council; radio station owner buys some wiggle room |

WINNEMUCCA — In her effort to keep city ordinances equally applicable, Holly James, publisher of The Humboldt Sun, recently went before the Winnemucca City Council to discuss – again – KWNA Radio's business license. Or, lack of a business license. In more than three years since Fred Weinberg became the owner of KWNA he has never purchased a city business license. Weinberg was not present at the meeting. However, he previously indicated to city representatives that his business is conducted with those outside of the state and therefore he did not need a local business license. To that end, he did agree to purchase a certificate of interstate commerce exemption. However, James pointed out Winnemucca Publishing also does business with advertisers outside of the state, as well as with subscribers, but this did not preclude the newspaper from obtaining a local business license.
