WINNEMUCCA — It was a formality but an important one as the Winnemucca City Council voted unanimously to authorize the contract between the new golf pro and the city on Tuesday (Feb. 7) Rick Longhurst has spent the last 29 years at the Ruby View Golf Course in Elko, but is currently making the transition to Winnemucca saying, “I’m Blue & Gold now. Go Bucks.” He said, “I want to thank the council for having confidence in me. I’m amazed this opportunity came open, and I’m glad you hired me.” Longhurst appeared ready to get down to business, which can be expected from a golfer in such fine weather. He’s looked over the course and while it’s a great facility he did have some ideas for initial improvements to discuss with the city, he said. Mayor Di An Putnam commented on the importance of the Winnemucca Municipal Golf Course to the community and as a factor in tourism. The golf pro is not an employee of the city, but is contracted for services. Previous Post: |
