WINNEMUCCA — The Winnemucca City Council recently voted to refine the Municipal Golf Course policies and regulations to present the material in a more structured manner. However, in streamlining the material they took the additional step of changing the fee policy for tournaments where the golf course is closed to the general public. Currently the fee structure is largely dependent on who’s playing in the tournament. For example, certain fees were waived if more than 50 percent of the players were from out-of-town, etc. Under the amended policy there will be a $5 per player/per day fee during tournaments in which participants have the opportunity to play on a closed course. Additionally, the city intends to start enforcing the policy that charges a minimum fee of $400/full day and $200/half-day for tournament play where the course is closed to the general public. If the $5 per player fee does not add up to the $400/$200 minimum fee, the tournament organizer will have to make up the difference. Mayor Di An Putnam said the $400/$200 minimum tournament fees were always in the policy but have not been collected in a long time. The city will still waive the green fees for those tournaments where 50-percent of the players are from out-of-town. Additionally, the tournament fees for the Men’s Association, Lady’s Association, high school, and Junior Tournaments will continue to be waived. There was some discussion the Men’s Association and Lady’s Association undertake projects that benefit the golf course; therefore, it was only appropriate to continue to waive those fees. |
