WINNEMUCCA — The City of Winnemucca accepted the bid submitted by Hunewil Construction for the first phase of improving many of the intersections around town. The bid was accepted at the meeting of the Winnemucca City Council on Tuesday (Oct. 4). The money for the $87,436 project came from the Regional Transportation Committee and was collected from local gas taxes. The engineer’s estimate for the project was $95,000. According to City Manager Steve West, the goal was to keep the project under $100,000 and out of the Davis-Bacon realm and its requirements for prevailing wages. For that reason, the project will be done in phases with some improvements now and some next year. The intersections on the list to be improved this go-around were: National & Vista, National & Ida, Fifth & Baud Streets, Harmony & Bell, Minor & Melarkey St., Pearce & Scott St., Nixon & Pavillion, Monroe & Fifth St., Monroe & Sixth St., Minor & Hanson St., Highland & Kirkway, Highland & Palisade, Highland & Kluncy Canyon. The improvements include fixes to valley gutter widths and curb returns/aprons.
