City/state may negotiate resolution on troublesome intersection

Print

WINNEMUCCA — The unavailability of funds for a roundabout have the Winnemucca City Council and Nevada Department of Transportation taking a closer look at installing a traffic light at the Bridge and Haskell St. intersection.

Kevin Lee, NDOT District Engineer, was before the city council on Tuesday (May 1) to talk over the issues.  Although statistics provided to the city concluded roundabouts reduced traffic accidents and were safer for pedestrians, the possibility of a roundabout was not warmly received by the public.

The issue was once again on the table at the Tuesday (April 17) meeting of the Winnemucca City Council. No action could be taken because the issue was not on the agenda, but the council requested the issue be placed on the next agenda.

SPJ Reader Question: What City Council seats are open this election?

Print
SPJ Responds: Seat #1, held by Rich Stone, Seat #3, held by Joyce Sheen, and Seat #5, held by Paige Brooks, open this election. Stone and Sheen are term-limited out. Registration for city offices does not open until August and the dates have not been finalized. Registration for city offices falls late in the election cycle because they’re nonpartisan and candidates do not participate in the primary process.
