WINNEMUCCA — At the request of Commissioner Dan Cassinelli, the county solid-waste ordinance amended in 2007 to allow out-of-jurisdiction waste will be discussed and action will be taken at the next meeting of the Humboldt County Commissioners. The meeting is scheduled for April 19.
Cassinelli asked for discussion and action on the item but did not say what would be discussed or what action would be taken.
The request by Cassinelli was made immediately after the commissioners voted to revoke the 5-year CUP extension previously granted to Jungo Land & Investments for the development of a class 1 landfill. The company’s CUP will expire on April 12. There has been discussion among participants that a revocation of the amended ordinance would prevent Jungo Land & Investments – or anyone else -- from obtaining another CUP for out-of-jurisdiction waste.
The loss of the CUP extension may cause some problems for Jungo & Land Investment but those problems won’t come at the state level.
Vince Guthreau, public information officer for the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection, explained while it is incumbent upon individual companies to acquire local permits, the process is separate from the one occurring at the state level.
Unless representatives of Jungo Land & Investments withdrawals from the state permitting process, the review for the proposed Jungo Rd. landfill will continue. |
