WINNEMUCCA — Two potential candidates have announced in advance their intention to challenge current office holders.  Monday (March 1) marks the start of election season as it’s the first day potential candidates for local offices may file.

After weeks of speculation SPJ was able to confirm Thursday (Feb. 25) that Kevin Pasquale, who currently practices in Fallon, will challenge current Humboldt County DA Russell Smith for that office.  Nevada Revised Statutes do not require those running for DA to live within the county. Pasquale said he expects to be in town next week to file – depending on his court schedule.

In addition, Andy Rorex announced his intention to challenge Humboldt County Sheriff Ed Kilgore for that office. Rorex is a sergeant with the sheriff’s office, has been the SRT leader for seven years, and has experience working in detention, street patrol, investigations, drug interdiction, and major crimes. Rorex has been with the sheriff’s office for 15 years.

Below are some of the offices up for election in 2010.  Candidate's packets for statewide offices are at the Secretary of State's office; packets for county offices may be picked up from the Humboldt County Clerk’s Office at the courthouse -- and must be returned by Friday, March 12.

Mitt Romney won the Nevada Caucus. Can he unseat the president in November?
