BLM reports Coeur Rochester in compliance with signage

LOVELOCK —  Although the matter of the temporary restraining order sought by Coeur Rochester Mine against Rye Patch Gold has been temporarily decided, some issues raised during testimony remained unsettled.

One of those issues was signage used by Coeur Rochester and whether or not employees/contractors of RPG had sufficient notice of the active mine site.  There was also testimony that some of the signage was only recently been added.

Allied Nevada Q3 profit surges, cuts 2011 guidance

TORONTO (miningweekly.com) – Allied Nevada, which operates the Hycroft silver-gold mine near Winnemucca, on Monday posted a 374% increase in net earnings for the third quarter to $14.7-million, after higher metal prices and silver production more than offset a dip in gold output.

BLM issues decisions for Twin Creeks Mine Vista Pit expansion

WINNEMUCCA — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Winnemucca District, Humboldt River Field Office has approved a Newmont Mining Company plan to expand the existing Vista Pit at Twin Creeks Mine.  The Twin Creeks Mine is 35 miles northeast of Winnemucca in Humboldt County, Nev.

“The BLM is pleased to complete the environmental analysis and Decision Record that will allow the expansion for this project.” said Michael Truden, Humboldt River Field Manager.

Twin Creeks mine rescue competes and learns

WINNEMUCCA — A bus-vs.-semi crash with mass casualties, a fire, and a rigging rescue made a long weekend for Newmont Mining Corporation’s Twin Creeks Mine Rescue Team. 

Fortunately, those were just some of the scenarios presented to test the team’s skills at the 31st Annual International Surface Mine Rescue Competition, held over the August 19 weekend in Gillette, Wyoming.

Newmont seeks local government support during EA process

WINNEMUCCA — Two representatives from Newmont were before local governments in order to garner support for the Vista Pit phase 7 expansion project at Twin Creeks Mine.

Sue Hawkins, External Relations, and Doug Barto, Senior Environmental Compliance Manager, asked both the Humboldt County Commission and the Winnemucca City Council to write letters to the BLM in support of the expansion.  The two were before the city council on Tuesday (Aug. 23) and the county commission on Monday (Aug. 15).

Hycroft donates iPads for Drug Free Graduation Party

Warren Woods, of Hycroft, is shown with Kelley Bell, of the Lowry High Drug Free Graduation Party Committee WINNEMUCCA — Having lost a significant federal grant important to the success of the Lowry High School Drug Free Graduation Party, organizers reached out to the community for additional help in putting on the annual event.

Stepping up to the plate was Hycroft Resources & Development who generously donated five iPads to be given away as prizes during the party.
