WINNEMUCCA — Having lost a significant federal grant important to the success of the Lowry High School Drug Free Graduation Party, organizers reached out to the community for additional help in putting on the annual event.
Stepping up to the plate was Hycroft Resources & Development who generously donated five iPads to be given away as prizes during the party.
Parents and volunteers have been putting on the Drug Free Graduation Party for 18 years in an effort to give the graduates a great time – without alcohol and drugs. An important element of the party is the prizes given out throughout the night, which helps keeps the graduates at the party to the very end.
Committee member Paige Brooks said, “We have been so blessed. We are so lucky and grateful to live in such a fantastic community.”
The committee has been able to raise about $17,000 from businesses and community members. The money is spent primarily for games and prizes, and it is spent in the community wherever possible. The committee spends very little on decorations and makes every effort to have the food donated.
Donations to the Drug Free Party may be sent to Lowry High School 5375 Kluncy Canyon Drive Winnemucca Nevada 89445 attn: Drug Free Graduation Committee.
