WINNEMUCCA—A Winnemucca woman was the lucky winner of a true labor of love last month.

Julie Street won a quilt that was raffled off by the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice on December 23.  The quilt, which was donated by Bev’s Bevy Quilters, was made by Beverly Sullivan, Cynthia Knight, Kellie Mills, Dottie Souza, La Wana Ferrier and Renae Belingheri; Renae Belingheri also donated her time to complete the quilting.

The group annually provides the local non-profit with a handmade quilt. The hospice then raffles the gift to raise money to help this community’s chronically and terminally ill residents.

Hospice volunteers began selling raffle tickets for the quilt in the fall, and once again the community was generous to a fault.
“We are always amazed at people’s generosity towards those who are in need,” said Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith. “These wonderful quilters simply outdo themselves every year in the beautiful quilts they give us, and our community comes out in force to help us raise the most money possible.”
Smith added, “It really warmed our hearts just as I’m sure this gorgeous quilt will warm our lucky winner.”

The Humboldt Volunteer Hospice helps those facing end-of-life situations as well as those suffering from chronic illness.
For more information on the Humboldt Volunteer Hospice, please contact Humboldt Volunteer Hospice Executive Director Sherry Smith at (775) 625-4263.

Families do not need a doctor’s referral in order to access hospice services.
