Reader Question: I was at Walmart on Saturday but the store was closed. They said it was due to a power outage, but there seemed to be a lot of cops there for a power outage. What's up? SPJ Responds: Funny story. There was a power outage due to a 400 amp breaker that blew. The power outage occurred during the annual Winnemucca Kidz 'n Cops – a local program that sends underprivileged children shopping with a cop for Christmas. When the power went everyone was asked to step outside – including the cops who were there for the event. So there were a lot of cops there, but they weren't dispatched to the scene or investigating. It should be noted, the replacement breaker had to be specially ordered from Reno, then driven here, then installed, so the store was closed for more than four hours. |
