WINNEMUCCA — The Winnemucca Domestic Violence Shelter (WDVS) has been moving forward with their expansion to a dual agency thanks to the assistance of the Nevada Coalition Against Sexual Violence and the Nevada Network Against Domestic Violence.

As a partner agency, WDVS has received invaluable training allowing all advocates to be cross-trained in both domestic and sexual violence crisis intervention.  Funding has also allowed WDVS to transport victims to have a sexual assault medical forensic exam performed.  In addition, WDVS has expanded counseling services, legal advocacy, crisis intervention, and more to those effected by sexual violence.

All RAINN Affiliates operate 24/7 crisis telephone hotlines that serve victims of sexual violence. Volunteers and staff at these organizations are trained on issues surrounding sexual violence and can provide support and information about individual or group counseling, medical attention, reporting a crime to law enforcement as well as many other services.

About RAINN

RAINN, the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, is the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization and has been ranked as one of “America’s 100 Best Charities” by Worth magazine.

National Sexual Assault Hotline

Among its programs, RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE. This nationwide partnership of more than 1,100 local rape crisis centers provides victims of sexual assault with free, confidential services, 24/7. The hotline helps 140,000 sexual assault victims a year and has helped more than one million callers since its inception in 1994.

National Sexual Assault Online Hotline

RAINN is in the pilot phase of its newest hotline service, the National Sexual Assault Online Hotline, the first secure web-based crisis hotline providing live and anonymous support through an interface as intuitive as instant messaging.

Helping Policymakers and the Media

Innovative partnerships allow RAINN to reach millions of Americans each month with important information about sexual assault prevention, recovery and prosecution. RAINN is a frequent resource for television, radio and print news outlets — as well as local, state and national policymakers, law enforcement and rape treatment professionals — on the issues related to rape and sexual assault.

Educating America to Prevent Sexual Assault

In addition, RAINN uses its extensive entertainment industry and community-based relationships to put critical information into the hands of young women and men at concerts, on campus and in communities. Through these many close partnerships, RAINN educates more than 120 million Americans each year about sexual assault. RAINN also publicizes the hotline's free, confidential services; educates the public about sexual assault; and leads national efforts to improve services to victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice.

We Can’t Do It Alone

We are proud to count entertainers, athletes, media networks and corporations as our partners. We are equally proud to have the financial and volunteer support of tens of thousands of individuals, as well as thousands of staff and volunteers at rape crisis centers across the country. Recognizing RAINN's effectiveness, efficiency and professionalism, Worth magazine selected RAINN as one of "America's 100 Best Charities.” More than 84 cents of every dollar goes directly to sexual assault program services.  www.rainn.org

The Winnemucca Domestic Violence Shelter is a 501(c)3 non-profit and all donations are tax-deductable.  WDVS is funded by the State of Nevada, VOCA, United Way of the Great Basin, Nevada Network Against Domestic Violence, Attorney Generals STOPS Grant, TANF and generous local business and organizations.  Please call 625-1313 or visit or website www.winnemuccadvs.com for more information or how you can help.
