WINNEMUCCA — Spring is approaching and it's time to celebrate! The days are getting longer and more beautiful. The air is getting warmer and the ground is thawing. It's the prime season to come out of hibernation and catch up with old friends... or meet some new ones! The Winnemucca Community Garden (WCG) is inviting you to bring your family and celebrate at the Friends of the Garden Season Kickoff Dinner! Listen to live music courtesy of Jim Kinney and Rachel Jay Dot and enjoy a delicious home-cooked dinner. There will be magic tricks, fabulous raffle prizes, exciting door prizes, and great deals at the silent auction! Dancing and general revelry is encouraged! Join the fun on Saturday February 27th from 6:00pm until 9:00pm at the Winnemucca Convention Center's East Hall. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for youth ages 6-12, and free for kids under 6. Buy your tickets in advance at Global Coffee or the Garden Office and get a free raffle ticket! You can also visit our website at winngarden.org to register online and purchase your ticket securely with Paypal. Another reason to get excited about this event is that it is the first chance to get your hands on a plot application for the 2010 growing season! You can also learn about how the WCG is so much more than just a garden. Our community programs provide children's garden education, teach nutrition classes to low-income community members and help to fight hunger in Winnemucca.
Growing your own garden is also a great way to save money! In these economic times, plots at the community garden allow families to supplement their diets with free, fresh vegetables and fruits.
