WINNEMUCCA — Humboldt County Democrats joined those across the state on Saturday (Jan. 21) for the 2012 Democratic Party Caucus. With a Democrat in the White House seeking another term, there was little to debate on that score: President Barrack Obama won every delegate at the local level and 98.3 percent when all the delegates were tallied at the state level.
In a statement released Saturday, State Chairman Roberta Lange said, “I am excited that over 12,000 enthusiastic volunteers said ‘I’m in’ for President Obama today. Nevada Democrats are energized and ready to get to work to re-elect President Obama to create jobs and restore economic security for Nevada’s middle class.”
Humboldt County was one of 118 caucus locations across the state.
In addition to choosing a candidate, the caucus also gave participants the opportunity to help craft the state platform. Participants were invited to submit issues for consideration.
Even though the candidate was no surprise, Humboldt County Dems Chairman K.C. Harrison said it was important to gather and have a voice in the process.
The Humboldt County Convention is scheduled for April 14 and the Nevada Democratic Convention is scheduled for June 9-10. |
