The following were the results of misdemeanor arraignments, sentence hearings, and gross misdemeanor or felony preliminary hearings in Union Township Justice Court through March 4, 2011.

Tuesday, March 1

  • The charge against Darryl Alan Crutcher, of misdemeanor violation of a temporary restraining order, was dismissed by Chief Deputy DA  Kevin Pasquale.
  • Enrique Michel Campos was sentenced for misdemeanor trespass to credit for time served and restitution in the amount of $200 to the PD’s Office – to be paid by July 1. Pasquale amended the charge from gross misdemeanor unlawful use of a hotel key.
  • The case involving Daniel Laca Westfall, charged with misdemeanor resisting a public officer, MIC, and disorderly conduct, was dismissed by Pasquale.

The following were the results of misdemeanor arraignments, sentence hearings, and gross misdemeanor or felony preliminary hearings in Union Township Justice Court through February 18, 2011.

Thursday, Feb. 10

  • Jacob Taylor Peterson was sentenced for misdemeanor injury to/destruction of property and trespassing to 30 days in jail, stayed, to complete 100 hours of community service by April 10, restitution of $363.22 to be paid to HGH by Feb. 28; apology letter to HGH; no further incidents of public intoxication in public buildings.
  • Cody Brian Chavez was sentenced for misdemeanor DUI to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed and two days to do; complete DUI school via correspondence.
  • Joseph Allen Cantrell was sentenced for misdemeanor battery to 120 days in jail with 116 days stayed with four days credit for time served; no alcohol for one year; participate in treatment program and attend monthly review hearings.

Monday, Feb. 14

  • Michael Andrew Bloos was sentenced for misdemeanor possession of marijuana to pay fines totaling $342.
  • Esteban Salazar was sentenced for misdemeanor first-offense DUI to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed and two to serve by March 30; fines totaling $572; attend DUI school by May 14; Victim Impact Panel on March 19.
  • Kody Ryan Young was sentenced for misdemeanor minor loitering in a place where alcohol is served to pay fines $250, stayed $150, plus $82 court fees; no loitering in places where alcohol is served for one year.
  • Agustin Duenas Zamora was sentenced for first-offense DUI to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed and two days credit for time served; fines totaling $647; DUI school by May 14; Victim Impact Panel by March 19.

Tuesday, Feb. 15

  • Gloria Kay Sorensen was sentenced for misdemeanor trespass to pay fines totaling $182, which was converted to 20 hours of community service by April 1.
  • Macio Jacob Coleman was sentenced for misdemeanor first offense DUI to 30 days in jail with 28 days stayed with two days credit for time served; pay fines totaling $572 by Dec. 15; complete DUI School and attend the Victim Impact Panel.  The additional charge of misdemeanor possession of marijuana was dismissed by the DA’s Office.

Suspect in drive-by shooting bound over on one charge

Tucker Sharp and Brian Green WINNEMUCCA — The young man arrested following a December drive-by shooting will go to trial – but only on one charge.

Mark Tucker Sharp, 24, was in Union Township Justice Court on Friday (Feb. 11) for a preliminary hearing on two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Following testimony, Justice of the Peace Gene Wambolt found there was insufficient evidence for the first count. He bound count two over to the 6th Judicial District Court for trial.

Drive-by shooting suspect in court on related charges

Undersheriff Curtis Kull and Mark Tucker Sharp WINNEMUCCA — The man accused of committing a drive-by shooting was in court on Thursday (Jan. 27) – not for the drive-by but for what authorities allege he had in his car at the time of his arrest:  a gun and drugs.

Mark Tucker Sharp, 24,  was in Union Township Justice Court for a preliminary hearing on charges of  being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm and trafficking in a controlled substance level 1.

The Nevada Legislature is poised to enact a new law that will allow law enforcement to collect DNA at the time of a felony arrest, as opposed to the court collecting DNA at the time of conviction. What do you think?
