DA’s Office files criminal complaint in sexual assault case

WINNEMUCCA — The Humboldt County DA’s Office has filed the criminal complaint officially charging a local man with multiple counts of sexual assault on a child.

Homar Galarza, 28, was charged with three counts of sexual assault on child under the age of 14, category A felonies, battery with the intent to commit sexual assault, a category A felony, open or gross lewdness, a category D felony, and indecent/obscene exposure, a gross misdemeanor.

Man arrested for alleged attack on SO deputy going to district court

WINNEMUCCA — The man arrested in August for allegedly attacking a deputy in an attempted effort to steal her patrol vehicle will go to trial in 6th Judicial District Court.

Sandobal Ezequiel Jacobo, 26, was charged with burglary, battery with the intent to commit a crime, attempted robbery, battery on a peace officer causing substantial bodily harm – all category B felonies – for his alleged attack on Deputy Kathy Green of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.

Man pleads guilty to domestic battery

WINNEMUCCA — The local man charged with beating his wife and leaving her unconscious on the floor of their home has accepted a negotiated settlement that will reduce the charges he’s facing.

Quinton Boyles, 35, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery and was sentenced in Union Township Justice Court on Friday (Dec. 2).  A second charge, felony battery causing substantial bodily harm, will be transferred to 6th Judicial District Court for further proceedings.

Man wrongly charged has case resolved

WINNEMUCCA — The man who spent 58 days in jail as a result of a decimal point error had his case resolved in Union Township Justice Court on Tuesday (Nov. 29).

Winn Weatherly Jr. pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to time served on each count.

Another cracked windshield case goes away

WINNEMUCCA — A Minnesota man facing a string of charges pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor in Union Township Justice Court on Tuesday (Nov. 29) after Public Defender Matt Stermitz successfully challenged the probable cause for the traffic stop.

Christopher Whelan, 22,  was pulled over for having a cracked windshield by the Nevada Highway Patrol as he traveled on Interstate 80.  He was arrested and charged with numerous misdemeanors, including driving with a broken windshield, driving without a license in possession, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and additionally with one felony, which was being under the influence of a controlled substance.
