WINNEMUCCA — A man charged with stabbing another man had his probation revoked on Monday (March 9) after he acknowledged he failed to follow the terms of probation. Robert Lee Mangum, 23, pleaded guilty last March to stabbing another man in the chest and neck following a dispute at a local bar. Originally charged with attempted murder, the defendant pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of battery causing substantial bodily harm as part of a negotiated settlement and was placed on probation. In court on Monday, District Attorney Russell Smith asked that the probation be revoked because Mangum failed to comply with the conditions of probation. According to the report prepared by the Department of Parole and Probation, the defendant failed to report to P&P, moved without notifying P&P, tested positive for marijuana, and failed to appear for drug court.. Mangum admitted the allegations and when asked to speak on his own behalf said he agreed with the DA. “My probation should be revoked,” he said. Judge Michael Montero replied, “I applaud you for your candidness and for recognizing you’ve been given an opportunity you were unable to take advantage of.” Mangum was ordered to serve the underlying sentence on the charge, which was 19-48 months in prison with 245 days credit for time served. |
