WINNEMUCCA — An argument over dirty dishes allegedly escalated to the point a man picked up a steak knife and stabbed his roommate. Jorge Luis Ibanez, 19, was arrested on Thursday (Jan. 12) at the Grass Valley residence where the incident happened. The criminal complaint generated by the Humboldt County DA's Office has charged the defendant with battery with a deadly weapon. According to documents filed with the court, the argument between Ibanez and his roommate began over dirty dishes. The argument became physical and the two roommates began to push each other around. Two other male roommates in the house attempted to intervene by holding the two men apart.Witnesses told investigators Ibanez grabbed a steak knife off the counter, reached around the roommate not involved in the dispute, and allegedly stabbed the victim in the back. The victim left the residence and walked to a convenience store where he called 911. His injuries were not expected to be life threatening. Ibanez is in custody at the Humboldt County Detention Center where bail was set at $20,000. |
