WINNEMUCCA — A man facing felony charges of theft of a credit card and conspiracy to commit theft avoided prosecution after his attorney successfully argued in pretrial documents that while the state had oodles of evidence a crime had occurred, they had nothing to tie the defendant to the crime.

Sam gets minimum three years in prison for attack; among the cases in district court on Monday (May 13)

WINNEMUCCA – The man police found hovering over his girlfriend with a knife during a domestic dispute last May was sentenced to prison on Monday (May 13).

Dusty Colin Sam, 28, was sentenced for felony burglary to 38-96 months in prison with 376 days time served. At the time of his arrest he was charged with attempted murder, false imprisonment, interrupting a 911 call, domestic battery, and resisting arrest.

Man who admitted to killing infant son sentenced again – on lesser charge

WINNEMUCCA – The man who was sentenced in 2006 to life in prison for killing his infant son was back in court to be sentenced to a lesser charge and a reduced amount of time in prison.

James Barker pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in February and was sentenced to 10-25 years in prison on Monday (April 15) in 6th Judicial District Court. He has already served seven years of that sentence.

Man sentenced for kidnapping among the cases in district court

WINNEMUCCA — A man who pleaded guilty to kidnapping was sentenced to probation on Monday (April 1), which was among the cases in 6th Judicial District Court.

NERIO CEBALLOS was sentenced for second-degree kidnapping to 60 months probation with an underlying sentence of 33-86 months in prison and for the deadly weapon enhancement to 60 months probation with an underlying sentence of 33-86 months probation. He has 891 days credit for time served.

Sexual assault case remanded to juvenile court

WINNEMUCCA — A case involving a 16-year-old male juvenile charged with sexual assault on a child under the age of 14, a category A felony, was remanded from 6th Judicial District Court back to juvenile court on Monday (April 1). No more about the case will be known.

NSC schedules arguments in dispute between mine and district court

WINNEMUCCA – The Nevada Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments in the case involving a dispute between Rye Patch Gold and Judge Michael Montero, of the 6th Judicial District Court, concerning actions he took while presiding over the civil litigation between RPG and another mine, Coeur Rochester.
