WINNEMUCCA — A traffic stop on Thursday (Jan. 19) resulted in the seizure of 66.5 pounds of marijuana and $5,700 in cash. The marijuana was transported in three large duffle bags containing 54 packages of marijuana with an estimated street value of $800,000 - $900,000. According to Trooper Johnny Peoples, of the Nevada Highway Patrol, the vehicle was pulled over on Interstate 80 for following too close. The occupants denied a consent to search, so a warrant was obtained from Union Township Justice Court. Following the search all three occupants of the vehicle were arrested on allegations of drug possession and sales. Jacqueline Vadala, 30, Philip Mastrandrea, 21, and Luigi Celantano, 22, all of New York City, were charged with possession of a controlled substance/marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to sell, transporting a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Celantano was additionally charged with possession of a dangerous drug. Peoples was assisted at the scene by Sgt. Greg Johnson, Sgt. Tony Roth, who assisted with the execution of the search warrant, Deputy Chris Aker and drug K-9 Boots, of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators from DPS – Investigation provided the estimated street value. Peoples commented, “I really appreciated the team effort and cooperation.” Bail for Celantano was $40, 627. Bail for Vadala and Mastrandrea was $35,627.
