SPJ Reader Question: Cheers burglary update

SPJ Reader Question:  So does anyone have a clue what the status is in the Cheers Bar robbery?

SPJ Responds: The suspect was located.  Eric Heaslett was arrested on Tuesday (May 15) and charged with commercial burglary.  Bail was set at $20,000.

Police Chief Eric Silva extended the thanks of the WPD to the community for their assistance in locating the suspect.

Man arrested for his part in violent confrontation and punching WPD officer

WINNEMUCCA — A man was arrested Wednesday evening (May 16) on allegations he was involved in a violent confrontation with another man then punched a responding officer from the Winnemucca Police Department in the face.

Terry Penola, 20, was charged with affray, resisting a public officer, and battery on an police officer, battery with substantial bodily harm, and malicious destruction of private property.

Suspect in reservation shooting arrested

WINNEMUCCA — A suspect has been apprehended in the shooting on the Fort McDermitt Indian Reservation Friday (April 27).

Adam Scott was charged in federal court with two counts of assault. On the first count he’s charged with shooting a Native American man in the abdomen; on the second count he’s charged with shooting at six Native Americans. The adult man who was shot survived.  None of the victims were named in court documents.

Man charged with attempted homicide following domestic dispute

On Tuesday (May 1) at approximately 11:30 p.m. officers from the Winnemucca Police Department were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Second St for a reported 911 hang up.  

When WPD officers arrived they found the residence to be dark with no signs of occupancy.  As the officers were leaving the scene they heard sounds of yelling and screaming.

Two more arrested in beating death

Derick McKinney WINNEMUCCA — Two additional men were arrested on outstanding warrants Friday (April 27) in connection to the beating death of a local man.

Derick McKinney, 18, (shown top) and his brother Johnathan Michael McKinney, 22, were each charged with open murder and are being held at the Humboldt County Detention Center without bail.

Johnathan McKinney The man authorities allege delivered the fatal blows was Matthew Krieger, 27, who was charged with first-degree murder.  Michael Delarosa died at the scene as a result of injuries suffered during the beating.
