WINNEMUCCA — Before they can participate in off-road enforcement on the agency’s new motorcycles, eight deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office were put through the paces Wednesday and Thursday (April 14 & 15) to test and evaluate their abilities on the bikes.
The day-long class included both written and riding instruction; the practical instruction included pavement and off-road riding.
The two enforcement motorcycles were purchased with ARRA funds. (Corrected) The idea for the bikes came from Detective Kevin Malone who researched what other agencies were doing then presented the administration with the research and a recommendation they bring the program here.
As he has before, Sheriff Ed Kilgore noted it’s a big county out there and much of it is inaccessible by vehicles.
“This is just another tool to seek out marijuana growers and others who would plan or carry out criminal activity in the more remote areas of the county,” Kilgore said.
