WINNEMUCCA — Northern Nevada law enforcement officers joined forces Wednesday in Humboldt County for a day of major crime interdiction. Officers were looking to take drug traffickers, drugs, and fugitives from justice off the streets.
Participating was the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team, Elko Police Department, Elko Drug Task Force, an officer from the Battle Mountain Band of the Te-Moak Western Shoshone, and the Nevada Highway Patrol.
According to Sgt. Jason Franklin, of Department of Public Safety – Investigation Division, $5,000 was seized from a car where there were allegedly indicators of drug activity. The individual was not arrested and has the opportunity to come back to Nevada with proof the money came from lawful sources – such as a bank savings account. Otherwise, the cash will be held in a civil forfeiture account overseen by the Attorney General’s Office until such a time as it is redistributed back to area law enforcement.
There were no arrests and no major drug seizures.
Officers made contact with the public during the course of traffic stops. If a vehicle was pulled over for a traffic infraction and there were indicators of criminal activity, consent was sought to search the car. Warrants were obtained where consent was not given for a search.
