LTE: Principal invites community to FFMS Veteran's Day celebrations Print

My name is Robert Lindsay and I serve as the principal of French Ford Middle School, a fifth and sixth grade school in Winnemucca.

The purpose of this correspondence is to both invite and inform you about our Veteran’s Day Assembly. This will be the fifth year that we have had this special observation of this day.

This year’s significance is no less - as this will be “11/11/11”. As you probably know your history of this day, originally Armistice Day, the cease fire for WWI was set for the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day, of the eleventh month in 1918 (hence 11/11/11).

Years later, this then  became Veteran’s Day through an Act of Congress.

Our assembly is special in that our children learn the anthems of the five military branches in their Music classes here at FFMS. Then, during the assembly the children sing these to our community, veterans, and parents who have all been invited in a sharing of our great history of service to one’s Country.

This year will be no less celebratory, actually the best ever! Colonel Sam Routson of the USMC (Ret.) will be our guest speaker.

We will be recognizing every branch of the military.  I would like to take this opportunity to invite members of the community,  families, active or veteran members of the military -- many of whom have worn their uniforms at previous events.

Thank you,

Robert Lindsay

Would you support using taxpayer dollars to buy and renovate the Winnemucca Hotel for local use?
