If one believes in the right to call out wrongdoings, then there is an equal responsibility to bring to light things done right. In my view, Animal Control Officers Connie Patterson and Carrie Uriguen, of the City of Winnemucca and Humboldt County, respectively, are doing it right.
On Friday, September 30, the City-County Animal Shelter held a canine adoption event at our local Big R Store. The result? Four of five dogs available for adoption found new forever homes.
Now, one could ask, "Why not just stay at the shelter and let the adopters find the dogs there?" Sure, it's more work to bring the dogs closer to the public. But, as any business person knows - the more visibility, the more likely a "sale" will be made. In my view, hats off to our proactive ACOs and to Chief Silva and Sheriff Kilgore, who support their efforts. As one who has been deeply involved in our local homeless canine issue, I truly appreciate your efforts.
If you believe as I do, please let these ladies (and their bosses) know, when you see them in the community. Tim Vaughan |
