In response to Mr. West: I would like to personally thank the worthy elected officials that have dedicated themselves to serve on our city council. These people I believe are conscientious research-based councilmen. Paige, Jim, and Rich please continue to work hard for our city; your thoughtful honest integrity is a breath of fresh air. Even when you are slammed by the others you continue to show professionalism and unbiased values, unlike the others that were voted/hired to serve our community. Government across our great country was created with checks and balances so certain individuals don’t rule like a dictatorship. I am proud to live in a country that upholds the importance of freedom of speech. Mr. West, who died and made you king? Do you feel above the rest of us and are not accountable for your actions? Throughout history we have witnessed wars and changes that will forever paint a new picture of our country. Individuals like Frederick Douglas, Martin Luther King, and Abigail Adams led movements for reform and change. Each one of these great figures spoke and wrote on societal issues that impacted the lives of many Americans.Where would we be today if such individuals were not allowed to speak? While many influential figures did in fact use their real names, many others opted to write under aliases. Famous female writers who would not be taken seriously had to use male names in order to be published. The one thing that cannot and will not be taken from us is our rights to free speech. As long as we have narcissistic, self-serving individuals in our public offices our community will continue to be at odds with one another. The internet has provided up to the minute news and community events that are not aired anywhere else. This is a small community and eventually those that have been hiding their skeletons will be exposed. We the people are tired of the injustices continually being overlooked, dismissed, and swept under the rug. We are asking for fair and equal treatment despite our last name or social circle. Due to business as usual many of us fear retaliation and thus the anonymity continues. Name Withheld |
