WINNEMUCCA — The Golconda Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Friday (Feb. 17) behind the Button Point rest stop in which a family’s workshop was destroyed – though firefighters did keep the fire from spreading to other buildings.
Firefighter Dolores Shields said the fire may have started with a space heater left on to warm the family’s cat and dog. Both pets were saved and no one was hurt, for which the family was thankful.
On behalf of the Golconda firefighters, Shields sent much appreciation to the Winnemucca Rural Fire Department who responded and assisted with the fire. She said without their assistance matters might have been worse.
Due to exploding bullets and the explosion of one small propane tank, the public was kept back to a safe distance for reasons of safety. |
