WINNEMUCCA — A woman was killed and her brother seriously injured in an early morning accident on US 95. The single-vehicle rollover was reported by a passing motorist at approximately 6:30 a.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 4).
The vehicle was southbound on US 95 on the Paradise Summit when it left the roadway, overturned, and rolled down an embankment leaving debris for hundreds of feet. Both occupants were ejected during the course of the rollover.
The accident is being investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol. Sgt. Tony Roth, of the Major Accident Investigation Team, was on scene.
According to Trooper Johnny Peoples, there were no witnesses and it’s not known exactly when the accident occurred. A passing motorist called 911 after being flagged down by the male victim, who managed to pull himself up the embankment for help.
He was later transported to Humboldt General Hospital. His condition was not released.
Both victims were described as being in their mid-twenties.
Peoples said investigators will look at whether or not speed was a factor in the accident.
The overturning vehicle left a debris field in its wake.
NHP troopers walk the accident scene.
Deputy Kevin Malone, one of the coroners on staff at the HCSO, was on scene along with Deputy Angel Cardenas. |
