WINNEMUCCA — A man on the railroad tracks near the Bridge St. crossing was killed after being struck by a passing train. The incident occurred Sunday evening (Oct. 23).
Aaron Hunt, Union Pacific Railroad spokesman, said, “Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the deceased.”
According to UPRR, the man did not respond to the locomotive horn, which was sounded by the train crew. Hunt added it typically takes a freight train about one mile to stop once the train crew puts the train into emergency.
The crew was put in touch with counselors who help manage the grief and shock of such an incident, Hunt added.
He reminded community members that train tracks are dangerous and the only place a pedestrian should ever cross the tracks are at designated railroad crossings.
The name of the victim was not released. |
