WINNEMUCCA — Two motorcyclists were injured on Thursday (Sept. 22) in non-collision wrecks. The incident occurred 27 miles north of Winnemucca -- two miles north of the Paradise Summit -- at approximately 9:50 a.m.
The wrecks were investigated by Trooper Johnny Peoples of the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Peoples said the two motorcyclists encountered a pickup hauling a camp trailer that was traveling slower than the posted speed limit. The pickup was experiencing mechanical difficulties, so the driver attempted to turn from the northbound land into a gravel turnoff located on the southbound side.
As he began to turn, the motorcyclists prepare to pass. However, the driver of the pickup swung back into the travel lane. To avoid a collision, the motorcyclists swerved and left the roadway. Their motorcycles went down in the brush and both sustained injuries. Both men were transported to Humboldt General Hospital.
Peoples cautioned motorists to use caution when overtaking slower moving vehicles -- especially at highway speeds.
The wrecks remain under investigation. At the time of this post no citations had been issued. |
