WINNEMUCCA — The Winnemucca Police Department responded to two accidents over the course of two days where alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
On Wednesday (Sept. 7) at approximately 5:50 p.m. officers from the WPD were dispatched to the intersection of Bridge and Kendall Streets for an injury accident.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a Mazda sedan was traveling northbound on Bridge St. approaching a GMC pickup that was stopped in the travel lane behind a Chevrolet Sedan waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn on to Kendall St.
The Mazda sedan rear-ended the GMC pickup. This impact caused the GMC pickup to strike the Chevrolet sedan.
Both of the occupants of the Mazda sedan and the GMC pickup were transported to Humboldt General Hospital by HGH EMS. They were treated and later released.
Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this accident. The investigation is ongoing.
Then, on Thursday (Sept. 8) at approximately 5 a.m. officers from the PD responded to the area of Bridge and Railroad Streets for an injury accident.
The preliminary investigation revealed a Ford pickup was traveling at a high speed eastbound on Railroad St.
When the vehicle approached the intersection of Railroad and Bridge Streets, the driver failed to stop at the posted stop sign and attempted to make a right turn to travel southbound on Bridge St.
The driver failed to negotiate the turn, lost control, and struck the curb on the southeast corner of the intersection of Bridge and Railroad Streets.
This impact caused the vehicle to roll on its side. The driver of the vehicle was transported to HGH by EMS where he was treated for minor injuries and later released.
