WINNEMUCCA — A gas leak was discovered in the new gym at Lowry High School that caused classes to be moved out of that building for a short time. According to Superintendent Mike Bumgartner, the gas leak was discovered by staff when they arrived to school early Monday morning (Sept. 26). The leak was traced to a hot water heater in the new gym. Classes in that building were relocated to other locations at the school until the water heater was repaired. The repair was completed at about at 11 a.m. and classes resumed in the building by 4th period. School Resource Officer Jeff Dawson, the Winnemucca Volunteer Fire Department and utility personnel responded quickly. They advised and updated district administrators and safety staff until the situation was resolved. There was a second gas leak at a location across the street from Sonoma Heights Elementary School early the same morning. Once again, utility crews responded quickly. Bumgartner said it was determined there was no danger to the school, staff, or students so no interruption of school was not necessary. |
