WINNEMUCCA — Winnemucca Police Chief Bob Davidson announced on Wednesday (July 6) that he would be retiring from law enforcement effective September 4.

Davidson worked for the police department for 27 years.  He was appointed to the top spot on January 1, 2001.

City Manager Steve West commented, “It was very unexpected; a surprise to us all.”

He continued and said, “We saw a great deal of improvement of the operations at the police department during his tenure.”

West said he anticipated the City Council would discuss the process for hiring a new police chief at their next meeting.
