Suspect in Battle Mountain murder apprehended

WINNEMUCCA — The primary suspect in a murder on the Battle Mountain Indian Colony was apprehended this evening (Dec. 22) by officers from the Winnemucca Police Department with assistance from the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Draper, 47, is wanted for questioning in the shooting death of Linford Dick, 43,  on Tuesday (Dec. 20).

The FBI is expected to release a statement on the apprehension.

Federal warrant issued for Battle Mountain murder suspect

BATTLEMOUNTAIN — A federal arrest warrant has been issued for the primary suspect in a fatal Battle Mountain shooting Tuesday (Dec. 20).

The suspect was identified as Daniel Draper, 47, a white male, 5’5”, 160 lbs.  Draper was driving a black 2001 Ford Ranger with possible license plate: NR8764.  Draper was described as from the “northern Nevada area.”

Emergency responders dispatched to reported gas leak

Emergency personnel responded today (Dec. 12) at about 7:20 a.m. to the alley behind CB Brown’s on the report of a possible gas leak.  As a precaution, both the Winnemucca Police Department and Winnemucca Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched.

UPDATED: Additional cases of HFMD reported at FFMS

WINNEMUCCA — The Humboldt County School District reported additional cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) this morning at French Ford Middle School.

According to Assistant Superintendent Dave Jensen, two more cases were reported bringing to a total three cases at the middle schol.  He added the district was increasing cleaning protocols to include disinfecting surfaces that may carry the problem each evening.

OSP seeks assistance with missing person/murder case

Oregon State Police are reaching out to the public for information regarding a missing person’s case and two possible murder suspects.

During Tuesday (Oct. 4) afternoon's news conference in Salem, law enforcement officials released information regarding the search for missing CODY MYERS, age 19, from Lafayette, Oregon and asked everyone to be on the lookout for MYERS, his missing white 1999 Plymouth Breeze four-door displaying Oregon license 025 CCH, and two suspects sought in connection with a homicide investigation in Everett, Washington.

Gas leak discovered in new gym at LHS

WINNEMUCCA — A gas leak was discovered in the new gym at Lowry High School that caused classes to be moved out of that building for a short time.

According to Superintendent Mike Bumgartner, the gas leak was discovered by staff when they arrived to school early Monday morning (Sept. 26).  The leak was traced to a hot water heater in the new gym.

Local EMS resources sent to assist with deadly air show crash

WINNEMUCCA — Humboldt General Hospital EMS sent a critical care transport ambulance to Banner Churchill Community Hospital -- whose ambulances were out of the area assisting REMSA with the deadly crash at the National Air Race in Reno on Friday (Sept. 16)

HGH EMS Director Pat Songer said local resources were requested as part of a mutual aid agreement.  The critical care ambulance was out of the area for about six hours.

Local man killed in Montana grizzly attack

A local man was identified as the person killed in a grizzly attack in Montana on Friday (Sept. 16).  The man was identified by the Lincoln County Sheriff as Steve Stevenson, 39, who was with a hunting parting from Winnemucca.
