Silver Pinyon Journal is an online news Web site serving the residents of Humboldt County, Nevada.  SPJis wholly owned by Silver Pinyon Publishing, LLC and is independent of corporate ties.

SPJ began publishing in 2008 as an electronic community newsletter.  In January 2009, the newsletter became a Web site and on October 31, 2009 (Nevada Day!) SPJ officially launched as the site you're now visiting. 

In developing our mission we looked to the past to one our favorite newspaper owners and Founding Fathers, Benjamin Franklin.  As owner of the Pennsylvania Gazette Franklin hoped to create a diary of the events of the day, to advance knowledge about the scientific achievements occurring all over the world, and to promote social causes he believed in.  There was no thought given to fair and balanced news:  Franklin took sides and came down solid on promoting those issue he saw as beneficial to the people.

We hope to achieve the same.
